WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town Is……………
Written by Dave Mercer on October 6, 2010
So most of us fish hounds will do just about anything to keep our fishing hot spots a secret. There are even some anglers out there who won’t take their best buddy to a honey hole without a blind fold ! But the folks over at WFN have figured out a way to get the angling world to spill the beans. OK, OK, OK; maybe these folks aren’t exactly giving up the GPS numbers to the holy grail of fishing but they are telling the world what they think is the Ultimate Fishing Town.
WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town Is PORT ALBERNI, BC!!
After 630 000 votes had been tallied, it was Port Alberni, BC that barely beat out Nester Falls, ON.
The battle between the top 10 finalists quickly became a two town race as supporters in both Port Alberni and Nestor Falls spread the word amongst their residents. During the three weeks of voting, the two towns traded places atop the leader board and their vote totals were rarely separated by more than one percent.
Port Alberni won a $25 000 Community donation to be used to fund local fishing projects and a 30 min. feature about the town to air on WFN.
Nestor Falls has won a $5000 Community donation for their second place finish.
Top 10 finalists were:
- Port Alberni, British Columbia
- Nestor Falls, Ontario
- Dauphin, Manitoba
- Seeley’s Bay, Ontario
- Nipawin, Saskatchewan
- Port Rowan, Ontario
- Miramichi, New Brunswick
- O’Leary, Prince Edward Island
- Thunder Bay, Ontario
- Chilliwack, British Columbia
