If you’re a current or future Elite Series angler, this picture by BASS photographer James Overstreet should make you cringe. In the background is Ott the Dragon Slayer. Twenty five years old and he went head to head with the best in the business and came out a hundred grand richer. He’s going to be around for years to come, catching bass, kicking ass, taking names.
You may have heard of the guy in the foreground, too. That’s all-everything bass angler KVD, reigning Classic Champ and Angler of the Year. Over the course of his two decade career he’s won about twelve bajillion dollars with rod and reel. Nevertheless, he was one of those who got left in Ott’s dust during All-Star Week.
Even though Kevin didn’t get to fish the Alabama River this time, he came along as an expert commentator (did anyone check his credentials?) and camera boat driver. During some downtime, he picked up a camera and snapped a few photos. He’ll probably win a Pulitzer or get a contract for a coffee table book out of it. I just pray that he never takes up outdoor writing. If that happens, none of us writers will ever get another job again.
