Now YOU’RE the Bait!

Yes, you can quote the old Jaws script on this one – we ARE going to need a bigger boat.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie, an adventure traveler of the first order or just a regular old nut with money to burn, you may be interested in traveling to Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras. According to the Chicago Tribune, there’s now an operation there that’ll take you down over a quarter mile under the sea in a custom-built submarine to search for rare six-gilled sharks. You’ll lure them in with some live bait attached to your vessel, in effect making you a human chumline.

The problem, as I see it, is that the sub is 13 feet long and the sharks are bigger (they grow to over 18 feet), so you’re Mini Me to his Shaquille O’Neal. As old toothy tries to down the morsels you’ve attached, it’s not exactly a fair fight. Is there a chance that instead of just chum, you’ll actually become lunch? You’re expected to remain in the sub for up to 9 hours – plenty of time for Jabberjaw to work up an appetite for flesh.
