KVD: Irresistible Force, Immovable Object
Written by Sarah on June 15, 2011
Apparently the cliché exists for a reason. It is true. You cannot hope to stop KVD, you can only try to contain him.
We’re less than a week away from the end of the 2011 Elite Series season and the King of Kalamazoo is once again leading the AOY race. Not that it’s been easy – he got two flat tires on his trailer on the way to launch in Arkansas last week and rode the last few miles on his rims. Others might stop and curse their bad luck, he just kept on rolling along. I’ve yet to hear anyone ask if the flats were just bad luck or if they resulted from some chicanery on the part of his competition. I’m not pointing fingers, but you’ve gotta wonder if someone decided to take matters into their own hands and went after him with fishing’s version of the banana-in-the-tailpipe trick.
If indeed it was a mean-spirited prank, it failed. Look for them to try something more dastardly next, like pouring salt and pepper on Sherri’s cookies. Or replacing his favorite Metallica with a little Britney.
He’s on Wheeler now, a place where he’s done well historically. Heck, TVA events have paid for his house and the forthcoming college tuitions of his twin boys. Does anyone really believe he’s going to stumble?
Once a year, I take him off my fantasy team. Last week was the time for that folly in 2011? “He’s going to stumble sometime,” I told myself. “He’s not so good on rivers,” I lied to myself. To avoid embarrassing another angler, I won’t tell you who I replaced him with, but I will tell you that KVD crushed the other dude. Never again. He’s a permanent fixture.
