I've always wondered why the tackle manufactures never got together to get the story straight on the whole ” red color” thing. One says it disappears, the other says it attracts. Marketing ploy or is there some truth?

It becomes colorless in deeper water and if the fish can't see it
maybe that the attraction to it. All I know is this stuff has been
working for me

I learned recently during scuba lessons that red is the first colour to disappear underwater. A quick search on the internet finds this good article:
